Il-Ħaġar Museum calls for new volunteers

Il-Ħaġar Museum in Victoria, Gozo, is appealing for new volunteers to join its front desk team as it seeks to maintain its daily opening hours.

The museum, which is run entirely by volunteers, said its front desk team plays a key role in keeping the cultural hub open eight hours a day, seven days a week, throughout the year.

Volunteers are involved in welcoming visitors and supporting the museum’s day-to-day operations, with the team made up of people from different backgrounds and nationalities.

The museum said a number of its volunteers regularly spend periods abroad visiting family or travelling, while some of its long-standing volunteers are now facing health issues or are finding it increasingly difficult to dedicate the same amount of time.

It is therefore appealing for new volunteers willing to give just two hours a week at the museum’s front desk.

According to Il-Ħaġar, volunteers will be contributing to the preservation and promotion of Gozo’s cultural heritage, while also becoming part of a team that regularly takes part in seasonal gatherings and team-building activities.

The museum also encouraged people who are unable to volunteer themselves to share the appeal with others who may be interested.
