Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri said a series of meetings in London focused on sporting opportunities for Gozo, including the island’s potential to host more international sporting events.
In a social media post, Camilleri said the main focus of the meetings was on “international sporting opportunities” for Gozo.
He also highlighted Gozo’s role in the upcoming Commonwealth Youth Games, saying the island will host the triathlon and netball competitions when the event is held in 2027.
“Next year, Gozo will be hosting the Triathlon and Netball competitions of the Commonwealth Youth Games 2027,” Camilleri said.
The Gozo Minister said the government’s plans extend beyond the Commonwealth Youth Games, adding that work is underway to make Gozo “a hub for international competitive sport”.
The Commonwealth Youth Games are expected to bring young athletes from across the Commonwealth to Malta, with Gozo set to host two of the sporting disciplines.
