Thirteen-old Julie Micallef has become the first Gozitan girl to represent Malta at Under-18 level in water polo, according to Otters Aquatic Club.

Micallef is currently playing for Hungarian club Valkaj Ági. Her selection marks a milestone for Gozo, with the young player competing at an age category above her own.

Otters Aquatic Club said Micallef’s achievement reflected her commitment and development in the sport, while highlighting the club’s work in grassroots water polo and the development of young athletes.

The club said it had continued to grow both technically and administratively, with a focus on providing young players with opportunities to progress to higher levels of competition.

Micallef’s achievement is also expected to encourage more young athletes from Gozo, particularly girls, to pursue water polo and aspire to represent Malta.

Otters Aquatic Club congratulated Micallef on the milestone and wished her success in her sporting career.
